Start-ups on the increase
According to the latest research by Creditsafe, start-ups have increased by 18%. Around 470,000 limited companies were
registered in 2011 and it is thought that as each year goes by this will increase by around 20%.
The main locations for new start-ups are London, with around 160,000 and the South East with around 60,715. It has been a good year for enterprising and entrepreneurial skills. With the increased accolade from David Cameron this year on the flexible work front, more and more people could be looking to start up their own companies this coming year.
There was also a large amount of sole traders this year as well as limited companies so the figure of 471,000 is actually far greater. The chief executive of National Enterprise Network, Dawn Whiteley has said, “History tells us that more people consider starting or actually start a business in a recession. There is also increased pressure due to redundancies in the public sector – a trend that we believe will continue in the year ahead.
It’s also seen to be much easier and more credible to start a business these days, with more support and opportunity for those that want to do so.”
It is now thought that there are over 1.6 million freelancers and contractors in the UK alone. This figure has risen by 200,000 in the last two years. So if you are considering a change in the new year, start your own business! Go on, you have nothing to lose!
