Give your CV a makeover this new year
As the new year kicks into full swing it can often be a time of change. Perhaps it is time for a new job or a new contract? If so then it is important that you get your CV up to scratch. Take some time to look over your current CV and give it the makeover it deserves.
As a contractor, freelancer, or consultant you will want to show your prospective employer that you are the right person for the job. The first thing they will see, before they even meet you, is your CV. That is why it is vital it is dressed to impress!
Skills
Contractors or freelancers are different to permanent employees as they have a skill set that is really specific. That is initially what your employer will be looking at. Make sure that you highlight your specific skills whether digital or otherwise. Use your CV to really highlight your technical knowledge.
Make it specific
It is important that you tailor your CV to a specific role. Read the business specification and make sure that you adapt your CV to include the relevant information that your job role will require. An employer can tell if you have simply mass produced your CV.
Keep it simple
A recruiter doesn’t want to read through endless reams of paper. They will want to see it all laid there in front of them. Two pages is sufficient. Expand on your experience but only use the experience that is relevant to this role. You can just summarise other roles you may have had in the past.
Include a covering letter
This is not a necessity but it looks professional and shows a little attention to detail. Include a covering letter which explains why you would like to work with them.
Happy job hunting!
